Glamping

Your very own cosy and authentic Shepherd hut

Stay in your very own luxurious, rustic, as well as cosy and authentic, Shepherd Hut on Hickling Campsite. Situated on the edge of Hickling Broad National Nature Reserve, the largest of the Norfolk Broads and conveniently within reach of Norfolk’s exceptional and impressive coastline. Just 10 minutes away on foot is Whispering Reeds boat yard where you can rent canoes and boats of all sizes. If you prefer a sedate cruise, or a more energetic adventure on the water, Hickling is the perfect base to explore Norfolk’s famous Broads.

More the merrier

Our Shepherd Huts and Pod are available for hire from May to September, when the campsite is open. Stay for one night, or two weeks, the choice is all yours!

Hickling Campsite has five Shepherd huts and one Pod onsite for you to glamp under the stars. Why not get a group together and book all six for a special celebration? They are all situated in their own Glamping area onsite.

Our Shepherd huts are the perfect base should you be attending a Norfolk wedding. Get ready in the comfort of your hut and enjoy a relaxing morning cooking and eating your breakfast outside before you celebrate with friends later on in the day.

On your doorstep… Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads

At the heart of Norfolk’s outstanding coastline, Hickling Campsite is the perfect base to pitch up and go exploring… a cycle ride away from award winning, secluded, yet vast sandy beaches; and under a mile’s walk to Hickling’s quaint, traditional village pub, The Greyhound, and The Pleasure Boat Inn, which is situated on the impressive Hickling Broad.

Hickling Broad is an absolute haven for wildlife too, being a National Nature Reserve established by English Nature and in the care of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, there are plenty of footpaths and boat trips around the reserve for visitors to explore.

Enjoy the comfort of the great outdoors

Our Shepherd huts are a superb alternative to a tent, as you are close to nature without having to pack up the car with all the camping gear, widely known as Glamping, or glamourous-camping!

Our Shepherd huts are the very definition of Glamping, as you can experience the full camping experience in true comfort: insulated warmth, a comfortable bed, a guaranteed good night’s sleep and hassle free car journey wondering what you have forgotten. Each Shepherd hut comes with its own fire pit for all of your cooking. Although our Shepherd huts do not have electricity, you will in fact find that it is not needed, as all you need is onsite, giving you more room in the hut to relax and unwind.

Star light express

The campsite also benefits from being in an area with extremely low light pollution, and the sky on a clear summer’s night is truly a wonder. The Milky Way and myriad constellations are on display for your personal enjoyment and, if you are lucky enough you will certainly glimpse a shooting star or two. On a clear night you can open the doors and watch the stars from the comfort of your own bed and enjoy cosying up under the soft lighted solar lanterns that are provided in each hut, creating a gorgeously snug feel to your evenings.

Outdoor adventure at its best

The campsite has two outdoor washing up sinks, a super impressive toilet and shower block, handmade by the Hickling team to ensure every facility onsite is in keeping with the look and feel of our back-to-basics campsite, which is rustic, yet luxurious, creating a no fuss ambience.

Every hut has a splendid, high end, multi-use fire pit from firepits.uk. The grill has an immense surface area to cook all your food and your neighbours.

Dine and relax al fresco under the sunshine and stars

Your bespoke Shepherd hut includes its very own outside wooden table and chairs, to enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner alfresco while enjoying the last of the summer sun. You will find a table and benches inside all the huts too, that cleverly collapse into another bed. Should the weather want to remind you that you are still on Great British soil.

Sewed with soul

Each of the hut’s interior has its own individual style and reflects the animal it is aptly named after, all lovingly handmade by Norfolk based seamstress Amy from Buttonpearl Crafts.

“We loved seeing the huts come together with the furnishings we had handpicked for each individual hut,” adds owner Jo.

Quirky, rustic and comfortable, each hut comes with a fully equipped kitchen, including pots, pans, crockery and cutlery, kettle and snug throws for cosying up around the fire pit.

Wild at heart

As you drive around Hickling and its neighbouring villages drive slowly and be sure to keep your eyes peeled as Barn Owls are all around, especially at dusk.

If you are lucky enough on the way to Sea Palling beach you will pass a group of beautiful Red Deer stag with their gorgeous antlers on parade for you to marvel on fields beside the country roads.

We have the Duck hut, being so close to the broad there is never a shortage of quacking through the sky and on the broads. Hares, you will see no end of those distinctive, long-legged creatures running through our fields.
